Cuttington University Alumni Association in the Americas
CONVENTION 2008
HOUSTON, TEXAS
Inaugural Remarks by Rupel E. Marshall, Sr. on being Inducted National President of the Cuttington University
Alumni Association in the Americas.  Houston, Texas July 19, 2008

Fellow Cuttingtonians
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen

We praise the Almighty for allowing us to be of service to our university, our country and our fellowman.

My fellow Cuttingtonians please accept our sincere thanks for the confidence reposed in this core of officers and in me as
President.  We shall abide by the constitution and shall to the best of our abilities serve you well.

I believe that clarity is among the most useful tools of leadership.  We shall communicate regularly with clarity.  We shall listen
and we shall act.  We shall merit your continued support through results on the assignments you have given us.

We commend the President and authorities of Cuttington for rebuilding the institution.  We commend the President and
Government of Liberia for its valuable support to the university.  We commend all institutions and individuals, national and
foreign, for support to the University.

We heard the assessment and appeal of Dr. Steve Kaifa, representative of the President of the University to this Convention.
He has presented to us a written document which states that it would take nearly $55,000.00 to get the generator on the main
campus properly functioning.  I am pleased to state, that after consultations with the other officers present here, we have
agreed to immediately put in place a means to raise the amount before Dr. Kaifa leaves Cuttington to return to his teaching
assignments here in the States.  I hereby announce to you the establishment of a century club for contributions of at least
$100.00 per person for the energy project.  550 alumni and friends of Cuttington can do it.  We will do it!

Cuttington will rise again!  Dr. Thomas, our distinguished Guest Speaker, you have proposed several creative ideas to us.
We accept them.  We will work to develop the twenty-year strategic plan, one of your proposals.

O Cuttington!  O Cuttington!
Filled are our hearts with love for thee;
School of all truth and liberty
In study and work;
We shall remain faithful to thee

Thank you.
